Neighbourhood profile

Williamsburg is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Brooklyn, located very close to Manhattan. Over the last several years, there has been considerable amounts of new construction and conversion of existing warehouse space for residential usage.

Williamsburg, a former industrial area, is now inhabited by young people and reported to be among North America's "hippest neighborhoods". In the early 1990's the area became more inviting to artists as well as ordinary New Yorkers with moderate incomes who sought cheaper rents than in Manhattan. By the end of the 1990's the area around Bedford Avenue was transformed into an entertainment district, with bars, restaurants and galleries. The main shopping thoroughfares are Bedford Ave, Broadway, Metropolitan Ave, and Grand Street. Williamsburg offers many conveniences, including good shopping and schools, extensive municipal services, and very convenient transportation to Manhattan employment areas.

Northside Williamsburg and Greenpoint are separated by McCarren Park where residents can enjoy 36 open acres featuring a jogging track, tennis, handball courts, baseball and a soccer field. McCarren Park is experiencing a renaissance with people tanning on towels and enthusiasts lining up for concerts and other performances in the recently reopened long-disused swimming pool (currently not for swimming, but will be in the near future).

In May, 2005, The New York City Council approved a re-zoning and development plan for the waterfront area of Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods. Parks and promenades would create a cascade of waterfront playfields, playgrounds, habitats, fishing piers, boat launches, meeting places, and picnic areas.

Greenpoint is a neighborhood rich with history. From Indians, Dutch, Germans to today's cool New Yorkers gravitating to the area. This community offers excellent accessibility to two major highways, and great convenience for use of Metropolitan Transit connections.

BELVEDERE'S are just steps away from new upscale restaurants and bars of North Side, best pastry shops and quality stores of Manhattan Avenue, sport clubs and two parks, where you can play tennis or enjoy reading your favorite book.
